Do you know what kind of adhesive is used to bond Laminated Glass?
Smart Glass, also known as Laminated Glass, is a composite glass product made of two or more sheets of glass with one or more layers of organic polymer interlayer sandwiched between them. It undergoes a special high-temperature pre-pressing (or vacuuming) and high-temperature, high-pressure process to permanently bond the glass and interlayer together. Its characteristics include transparency, explosion-proof properties, water resistance, and UV protection. It can be used in engineering decoration, outdoor decoration, and home decoration.
Commonly used interlayer films for laminated glass include PVB, SGP, EVA, and PU.
In addition, there are some more specialized types such as colored interlayer laminated glass, SGX-type printed interlayer laminated glass, and XIR-type LOW-E interlayer laminated glass. Decorative and functional laminated glass also includes laminated glass with embedded decorative elements (metal mesh, metal plates, etc.) and laminated glass with embedded PET materials.
Main Types
1. Based on the melting point of the interlayer, it can be divided into: low-temperature laminated glass, high-temperature laminated glass, and insulated glass;
2. Based on the different materials sandwiched between the layers, it can be divided into: paper-insulated, cloth-insulated, plant-insulated, wire-insulated, silk-insulated, metal-wire-insulated, and many other types;
3. Based on the different bonding methods between the layers, it can be divided into: mixed-method laminated glass, dry-method laminated glass, and insulated laminated glass;
4. Based on the different types of lamination layers, it can be divided into: general laminated glass and bulletproof glass.
Material Properties
Even if the glass shatters, the fragments will adhere to the thin film, keeping the broken glass surface clean and smooth. This effectively prevents cuts and falls from shards, ensuring personal safety.
In Europe and America, most architectural glass uses laminated glass. This is not only to prevent accidents, but also because laminated glass has excellent resistance to earthquakes and intrusion. The interlayer can withstand continuous attacks from weapons such as hammers and cleavers, and can also resist bullet penetration for a considerable period of time, making its level of security extremely high.
This type of glass may shatter under impact from a heavy ball, but the entire pane remains intact, with fragments and sharp pieces still held together by the interlayer. When broken, the glass fragments do not scatter, and it is commonly used in vehicles such as automobiles.
